4th FRIDAY GATHERINGS 26 June 2009 - Lunch in the meeting room at Pacific Square, starting at 12.30pm. Geoff Banting, Council's Director of Governance and Financial Services, will provide an update on the Randwick Economic Development Strategy. See Draft Strategy. 29 May 2009 - Members braved a cold wet windy night to attend the gathering hosted by Lia Harris of Day to Day Solutions. Useful networking and a good discussion. Thanks Lia. 24 April 2009 - Lunch at Pacific Square, Kaylene Travascus (Jobfind) led a discussion on Employment Issues & Opportunities. Richard Walsh and David Shannon reported on their meeting with our local federal MP Peter Garrett on the impact of the new "Fair Work" legislation. The new "Modern Awards" are likely to increase employment costs in some small businesses by over 30%. 27 March 2009 - Lunch at Joeys. Jason Adjaka led a discussion on Business Survival. David Shannon and Richard Walsh introduced the Buy Local Campaign. David informed those present that Richard has agreed to resume the role of President until the AGM. This was endorsed by unanimous applause. 27 February 2009 - Our sandwich lunch at Pacific Square featured a police briefing on Security in Maroubra (Inspector Stephen Hodges and Crime Prevention Officer Taryn Williams, soon to be replaced by Steve Moorby). The meeting was well attended, and there was useful discussion on concerns about business and personal security and the general image of Maroubra. The issue of graffiti was raised. Tracey Jackson informed the gathering of her promotion within Jobfind, and her resignation as President. Those present expressed their congratulations, and appreciation for her leadership. It was also noted that Kaylene Trevascus has resigned as Secretary, and that the Executive Committee has appointed Marilyn Jeffries to this position.

ABOUT US The Maroubra & Districts Chamber of Commerce is one of the oldest Chambers in Australia. Over the years we have made some outstanding contributions to the local business community. We have a continuing (and so far successful) campaign opposing Randwick Council’s attempts to saturate the area with parking meters. We have monthly “gatherings” for local business networking. 2008 FUN RUN & OKTOBERFEST The 2008 Fun Run and Oktoberfest was held on Sunday 19 October in conjunction with Rotary, the Lions Club and the South Maroubra SLSC.
