MINUTES OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

4 March, 2008 - 6.30 pm
At Bolands Office, Maroubra Road
Maroubra

Welcome: Chairman, David Shannon thanked Kimble and Boland Funerals for the hospitality and opportunity to conduct this meeting in their modern premises. Kimble explained the value of the ‘new look’, which has been designed to ease the trauma of bereavement at a family’s most difficult time.

The annual report mentioned that Maroubra & Districts Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1985. The good work done during 2007 included the excellent financial result of the ‘2007 Fun Run’ and the most successful Community Dinner held in the year ending 30 June, 2007. The second financial report accounted for the MDCC activities for 8 months to 29 February, 2008.

John Segal conducted the election of Office Bearers for year 2008, by acknowledging the outstanding contribution Walsh’s Pharmacy had made to the wellbeing of Maroubra businesses. Richard Walsh stood down after being President of MCDD for past ten years. Richard will carry the title of Immediate Past President.

Opening Address: President Tracey Jackson.
Tracey is pleased to have the challenge to invigorate MDCC to be of support to local businesses. The development of focus on the local business community is essential to gain growth within Maroubra precinct.

Monthly Meetings: As a new start, it is intended to hold regular monthly meetings at lunch time at a local restaurant. This will give more businesses the opportunity to discuss strategies, team building and networking.
All businesses are invited to be representative of nominated areas of responsibility encompassing the whole of Maroubra.
Justin Ajaka and Kimble Hough have offered their premises for the monthly meetings from 12 noon – 2pm.
Some evening meeting may benefit some members.
Members will have the opportunity to display promotion material, to speak of their businesses; and be featured in a business directory. Slogans e.g. “Buy Maroubra” and “Shop Locally” could be considered for public display.

“Fun Run”: Will be held on Sunday, 19 October, 2008 at Byrne Reserve, South Maroubra. Early publicity is advised in both “Markets & Fairs” and “Fun Runner” publications.

Membership List: An up-to-date Membership will be prepared. The MDCC bulletin is distributed by email to financial members as well as 400-500 copies being delivered, courtesy of Walsh’s Pharmacy, throughout the local area.

Acknowledgement: Tributes were paid to Walsh brothers for their generous commitment to the community through “Fun run” for more than ten years and their popular Christmas Carols and Easter Hat Parade. Richard will continue to support the Chamber through his years of experience and extensive knowledge of Council requirements for the various Chamber activities. Thank you, Richard!
